Yet, decades of disinvestment and displacement have stripped our neighborhoods of the spaces where people gather, organize, and build power together.
The Northside Movement Center (NMC) will change that. Located in the heart of North St. Louis, this new grassroots community hub will bring advocacy, organizing, and direct services together under one roof, anchored by two of St. Louis’ leading justice organizations: Action St. Louis and ArchCity Defenders.
This is more than a building. It’s a commitment to the people of North St. Louis. It’s where we will defend, dream, and build the future our communities deserve.
Our capital campaign, which is facilitated by our 501(c)(3) fundraising partner Friends of Northside, is a community-powered effort to raise $15 million to transform a historic North St. Louis property into a home for justice and organizing.
For generations, North St. Louis has been the heart of Black life, creativity, and resistance.

The idea to be rooted in North St. Louis, home to many of the organizations’ members and clients, stems from years of service provision, community organizing, and coalition building.
For the past decade, Action St. Louis and ArchCity Defenders have worked side by side to alleviate suffering and transform the conditions facing St. Louis’ most impacted communities. From the streets of Ferguson to courtrooms and city halls, our partnership has challenged systems of injustice while building pathways for community power, policy change, and collective care.
Now, we are stepping into the next decade of work, which will be defined by deeper investment, shared infrastructure, and long-term transformation. The Northside Movement Center will anchor this next chapter, creating the physical and communal space our communities need to organize, heal, and build the future we deserve.
